v5.9#
Driver injection is much quicker. Most of the time used to go on repeating the same work for every image, and that has gone.
- Each driver pack is extracted once. v5.8 extracted every MSI or ZIP again for WinPE, Windows Setup, each edition and each edition's recovery image.
- Boot images only get the drivers they need. WinPE, Windows Setup and the recovery environment (WinRE) get storage, network, USB, keyboard, touchpad and chipset drivers. Graphics, audio, cameras, firmware and the rest go into Windows only. See Boot drivers.
- WinRE is serviced once and the result is reused in every edition. It is also compacted, which helps it fit the recovery partition.
- Unwanted editions are removed first. The editions you don't select are dropped before anything is mounted, rather than after they have been serviced.
- The image is compacted at the end, so
install.wimis smaller and quicker to copy to USB. You can turn this off. - ISOs with
install.esdwork. Media Creation Tool ISOs are converted toinstall.wimas part of the build. - Timings in the log. Each stage logs how long it took, and the log ends with a timing summary.
If a device can't see its disk or its keyboard in Windows Setup after upgrading, see Disk or keyboard missing during setup.
There is a live demo of the new flow. It is a simulation, because imaging can't run in a browser.
v5.4#
- Update Now applies the update instead of postponing it, and the update dialog shows the current and new version numbers.
- Updates are downloaded from the repository directly, which fixed download errors on some versions.
v5.0#
- Autopilot mode. Setup partitions the disk and accepts the licence, then leaves the out-of-box experience to Autopilot, so your company branding and enrolment appear as normal.
- Unattended install. Language, keyboard, time zone and disk partitioning are answered for you. This wipes the device's first disk.
- Admin rights only when needed. The app starts without administrator rights, so you can drag the ISO and driver packs into the window. It asks for elevation when you start a build or create a USB.
- More than one driver pack. Add MSI files, ZIP files or folders of drivers to the same image.
