Troubleshooting#
The log has the details: Tools, Open the logs folder. It never contains tokens, upload addresses or keys, so it's safe to send.
Sign-in#
- "AppDeploy isn't set up in this tenant yet"
- A Cloud Application Administrator needs to run Tools, Set up this tenant once. See Before you start.
- "Its permissions need admin consent" (AADSTS65001)
- The registration exists but consent hasn't been granted. Run Set up this tenant again, or Grant admin consent on the registration's API permissions.
- Error 0x80040154 or "Tag: 0x…" from the sign-in window
- The Windows sign-in broker isn't available on this PC (Windows Server, some LTSC builds, Windows Sandbox, some VMs, or an app run as another user). AppDeploy 0.3.3 and later sign in through your browser instead. Update if you're on an older version.
- The browser says "localhost refused to connect"
- The browser finished signing in, but AppDeploy had stopped waiting for it, for example because it was closed or updated in the meantime. Close the tab and choose Sign in again.
- A warning that your account holds more than it needs
- AppDeploy only needs Intune's Application Manager role. Sign in with an account without Global or Intune Administrator, or activate those roles only when needed, through PIM.
- Set-up fails: the tenant blocks Microsoft Graph Command Line Tools
- Create the registration by hand and enter its client ID in Tools, Settings.
Packaging#
- Windows SmartScreen warns when AppDeploy starts
- Choose More info, Run anyway. Download AppDeploy only from downloads.andykemp.com.
- "This folder has no installer in it"
- AppDeploy looks for MSI, EXE, CMD, BAT, PS1, MSU and VBS files. Put the installer in the folder, or choose the installer itself.
Install and the local test#
- "Not recognised"
- AppDeploy couldn't tell which installer it is. Check the vendor's documentation for silent switches (often
/S,/silentor/quiet), then run the local test to fill in the uninstall and detection. - The local test waits until the maximum run time
- The installer is probably waiting for input: the install command isn't silent. Close the installer window yourself (it runs elevated, so AppDeploy can't) and check the switches.
- "Nothing new appeared in the installed apps list"
- The app was already installed, or it doesn't register itself. Uninstall it first, or use a file detection rule.
<app folder>in the uninstall command- AppDeploy couldn't guess the folder. Run Test the install, or replace it with the folder the app installs into.
Upload#
- "Your account isn't allowed to do this" (403)
- The account needs an Intune role that can create, update and assign apps, such as Application Manager, and the permissions need admin consent.
- The upload stopped part-way
- Choose Upload to Intune again to finish the same app, or Remove the half-created app.
- "The category couldn't be set" or "The assignments couldn't be made"
- The app itself uploaded. Choose Try the assignments again, or set them in the Intune admin centre.
- "Intune hasn't finished publishing the app yet"
- Intune is still processing a large upload. Wait a few minutes, then Try the assignments again.
- The app doesn't appear in Company Portal
- It must be assigned as Available to a user group the person is in. Devices check in roughly every eight hours; sync from Settings, Accounts, Access work or school, Info, Sync, or from Company Portal.
